Slate on How It's OK to Put a Comma or Period Outside of Quotation Marks
Fuck yes, everyone who writes about music! Feel free to put that comma or period outside of the quotations around a song title.
Here’s a hypothetical introductory sentence to demonstrate how much this annoys me: “Despite the fact that every rap critic has written 1000+ words about Tyler, the Creator’s latest single, “Yonkers,” I feel the need to write a few thousand more words examining the same three issues that everyone else already has because you will probably click on it, and maybe read it.”
See how awkward that comma looks? Put it outside the quotes like you want to, everybody! Who said Friday the 13th sucked? As a dedicated comma-abuser, I’m fucking thrilled.
