The reason most taggers’ school notebooks are tagged the fuck up in the margins is because, in part, you want to have your letters down pat before you actually go out bombing. You need to act quickly, but you’d also like it to look good — so you practice. I hung out with a lot of taggers when I was younger, and I never really admired the enterprise, but at the very least they aimed to do vandalism properly. A low bar, sure. Look at this shit from Boro Park, Brooklyn — a neighborhood in South Brooklyn where lots of Orthodox Jews live. As a Jewish person, I’m almost more offended by the incredible carelessness these bigots brought to work with them than I am the actual “swastikas.” And besides, you get the sense this person hasn’t drawn that many swastikas, nor are they aware of the fact that the Nazis tilted it 45 degrees. Still, what’s more embarrassing than aiming low and missing so wide?
