Luni Coleone, Mac Dre “Gangsta Ni**az”

Lil B’s #1 Bitch tape came out today, and on a song called “Ready 4 The Funk”, Brandon compares himself to Luni Coleone, sort of out of nowhere. The specific reference is to “Thug Shit”. If you listen to Lil B religiously, it’s pretty likely you know substantially less about unhinged 1990’s Sacramento rappers than you do, I don’t know, whatever’s on Pitchfork today.

Lil B is such a product of the Internet that it’s difficult to remember that he’s from the Bay Area, and grew up with Bay Area rap music just like any other kid from Berkeley would. And that Bay Area music also sort of includes Central California rap, which is really scary stuff, best enjoyed with a wink and a nod — no, they can’t possibly mean what they say, right? I certainly hope not.

X-Raided being the exception, no, Sacramento rappers are not as psychotic as they let on. Is Lil B not similar, in a way?
