—Episode 10 - Skinny Friedman / Pittsburgh

champalecast:

Deez Bichez Rollin

Champale turned 10 episodes old this week, and to celebrate we broke out the Pink Champale with Very Special Guest Andrew “Skinny” Friedman, DJ to the Stars. On episode 10, which on a purely superficial level is a conversation about Pittsburgh, we consider the question: can a subculture be weakened from within, or rather, from its edges? From Willy’s opening anecdote about one female longboarder in Williamsburg, to a long debate about Mac Miller by three white guys, to a discussion of Pittsburghese, the question this episode seeks to answer, however unintentionally, is: what is the purpose of orthodoxy as it relates to urban subcultures?

But more than that, we listen to new raps, get as drunk as is appropriate to do around recording equipment on a weeknight (i.e., not very, but enough to forget that every word coming out of your mouth will live forever on the Internet). In the future, everyone will have a rap podcast. Until then, you have only so many options. Won’t you settle for a cold, refreshing Champale? We made it for you.

The longest, most hyper-local defense of Mac Miller you’ll likely ever hear, from a dude (Skinny, not me) who went to the same high school as him. Notice another running theme on this episode: how many things I am forced to admit that I do not know.
